As our department seeks to recruit new faculty colleagues, we want every person to have the information they need to assemble an application that best shows their potential to be successful in this job."

Whether you’re already in the process of applying for a faculty job or just thinking about it for the future, you may have found that there is a ton of advice out there, but some of it is conflicting, and every department does things differently.

Why is this? Part of the reason is that there are many “right” ways to do things like format a research proposal. Part of it is also because different disciplines and departments are looking for different things when it comes to evaluating candidates. Perhaps the biggest challenge is that the half-page job ad that is posted for each opportunity is expected to provide you with the information you need to construct a 20+ page application.

As our department seeks to recruit new faculty colleagues, we want every person to have the information they need to assemble an application that best shows their potential to be successful in this job. Thus, we’ve created this blog series to do exactly that. Over a series of posts, we’ll break down each part of the application and interview process, and answer some of those questions about academic job searches that you may be wondering about but are afraid to ask. While we very much hope that you decide to apply to our department, we also hope that these resources are helpful no matter where you decide to apply.

Ready to apply?
