Educational Background

B.S. in Chemistry from Emory University (2009)

Current Research

My current research focus is the detection and characterization of molecules of astrochemical interest. I am currently involved in two projects: Submillimeter/THz direct absorption spectroscopy of astrochemically relevant molecules, and the design, construction, and testing of a CW THz Cavity-Ringdown Spectrometer.

The direct absorption spectroscopy is focused on acquiring and assigning complete spectra of astrochemically interesting molecules and interstellar weeds, such as glycolaldehyde, acetaldehyde, and acetamide. The work is currently focused on extending spectral coverage of various molecules to frequencies relevant to the Herschel, ALMA, and SOFIA telescopes to aid in the the detection and assignment of these species in various interstellar regions.

The work on the CW CRDS is centered on the testing and incorporation of THz optical components into a CW CRDS system. The spectrometer is designed for the detection of trace species produced through photolysis, electrical discharges, or O(1D) insertion reactions.
